JOIN US FOR OUR FIRST EVER – FREE TREE GIVEAWAY!

The Friends of the Harte Trail is giving away trees to our membership and the community! Our Spring Tree Plant for 2020 is now Free Tree's! Not for the Trail - these trees are a gift for you!

Trees are small enough to carry home with you, totally fine making your way to the pick up location on the Harte Trail, if not parking locations are marked below, with a short 20 second walk to the Trail from there.

You may not know this but Winnipeg is at risk of losing approximately two-thirds of its urban canopy.  Last year, approximately 9,300 elm trees were marked to be removed.

Planting new trees on our own property is a great way to help preserve our iconic green urban canopy, as well as providing the environmental, economic, and social benefits associated with trees.

WHEN IS IT?

Wednesday, July 8th between 3pm to 6pm.

WHERE IS IT?

On the Harte Trail North of the Ridgewood West Community just West of the Van Roon Prairie Garden right in the middle of our Semi-Annual Tree Planting grounds. We will have tents and tables setup. Plenty of open outdoors for us all to be safe and respect each others space. Saftey first.

WHAT TYPE OF TREES? HOW BIG ARE THEY?

You have a choice of three trees to choose from:  White Spruce, Golden Willow, Prairie Grove Poplar. These trees are approximately 12" tall with an excellent root base so will be easy to plant and water.  They come with care and planting instructions as well.

Note that this is a first-come-first serve opportunity however if you would like more than 10 trees, please let us know what you need ahead of time and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

WHERE CAN I PLANT THEM?

Due to their small size, these trees are not suitable for city boulevards as they can be easily damaged by vandalism or snow-clearing equipment.  For this reason, the City of Winnipeg has very specific requirements when selecting trees for boulevards.  If you would like to have a tree planted on your boulevard, contact 311 or arrange to pay for the tree planting yourself through a homeowner agreement.
